Now let's continue and begin digging into the different trading fees charged by the Gemini Exchange.
Gemini Trading Fees
While Gemini is an exchange with a more reserved feature set, there are still quite a few types of fees to take into consideration.
To start with, Gemini charges a spot maker and taker fee for basic buying and selling of cryptocurrencies via their order book.
These fees begin at 0.2% for makers and 0.4% for takers but can be further reduced for those that trade above $10,000 during a 30-day period.
The lowest spot trading fee that can be achieved on Gemini is 0.02% for makers and 0.08% for takers, but to reach these levels, you need to trade above $10 million per month.
Gemini Transaction Fees
For those that place buy and sell orders via the website application, they will incur a convenience fee and a transaction fee. This fee is $0.99 for trades under $10 and increases depending on the order amount.
For orders above $200 the transaction fee alone is a 1.49% commission of the total value of a USD transaction.
Gemini Transfer Fees
Transfer fees on a cryptocurrency exchange refer to the fees associated with moving cryptocurrency assets in and out of the platform. These can be divided into two primary types:
1. Deposit Fees: These are charges applied when you transfer fiat or cryptocurrency assets from an external wallet into your account on the exchange. Most exchanges don't charge deposit fees for cryptocurrencies but will charge a fee for fiat currencies. 2. Withdrawal Fees: These fees apply when you transfer your cryptocurrencies from your exchange account to an external wallet. The costs can vary greatly depending on the cryptocurrency being withdrawn and the policies of the exchange. The same is true of fees associated with fiat currency withdrawals depending on which ones are supported by the exchange.
Gemini Deposit Fees
On Gemini, 8 fiat currencies are supported for deposits such as USD, EUR, GBP and a few others. Deposit methods include Bank Transfer (ACH/Wire), Debit Card transfers and PayPal.
Fiat deposits via bank transfer are free of charge while debit card transfer incur a fee of 3.49% and PayPal incurs a 2.5% deposit fee.
For those that wish to deposit cryptocurrencies onto Gemini, they can do so free of charge as most exchanges do not charge anything for this service.
Gemini Wire Transfer Limit
Bank Transfer (ACH) deposit limits on Gemini reset every 24 business hours and have a $100,000 per day ACH withdrawal limit for US customers.
There is a daily limit of $1,000 on debit card purchases but note that debit cards can not be used for fiat deposits or withdrawals, only purchases.
For those that prefer to use Paypal, there is a daily limit of $1,000 on PayPal purchases or deposits.
