The platform serves over 9 million users primarily in supported countries across North America and Europe and offers over 200 cryptocurrencies for buying, selling and trading. Now let's continue with a deep dive on the different fees charged by Kraken for the different services that they offer.

Kraken Trading Fees

Kraken.com operates as a platform that pairs orders from customers wishing to purchase cryptocurrencies with those wanting to sell, and vice versa.

When an order is successfully executed, that is, when it matches with another customer's order, Kraken charges a fee. This fee varies, ranging anywhere from 0% to 0.26% of the total value of the order.

Orders that are cancelled before being executed do not incur any trading fees.

Kraken Pricing

The prices that Kraken charges for transaction on it's platform depends on which services are being used.

For those that are spot trading on Kraken (basic buy and sell), they are charged a spot maker or taker fee when conducting a transaction.

Maker and taker fees are different types of fees incurred during cryptocurrency trading.

A maker fee applies when a trader adds liquidity to the market by placing a limit order under the ticker price for buy orders or above the ticker price for sell orders. These orders do not fill immediately and add to the market depth, hence the term maker.

On the other hand, a taker fee is charged when a trader removes liquidity from the market by placing an order that matches immediately with existing orders, thus "taking" orders out of the order book. These are usually market orders or limit orders that are placed at the market price.

Kraken Maker Taker Fees

The spot fees that Kraken charges makers is 0.16% and 0.26% for takers. For users that trade above $50,000 during a 30-day period, the fees can further be reduced.

Kraken Margin Fees

Margin fees which are often referred to as interest or borrowing fees, are charges applied when a trader borrows funds to execute a trade in a margin account.

These fees are typically calculated as a daily rate, based on the amount of leverage used and the duration of the loan.

In a nutshell, margin fees compensate the lender for the risk associated with lending out their funds for margin trading.

The margin fees charged by Kraken differ depending on the type of cryptocurrency that is being borrowed. For more cryptocurrencies however, Kraken takes a 0.02% opening fee followed by a 0.02% rollover fee every 4 hours.
